I started another blog on cheap wines, as I attempt to find wines I like through the experience of cheap bottles of wine often ignored on the lower shelves of local wine stores. This is my first post from that blog, which can be found at http://cheapbottleofwine.blogspot.com.
Recently I picked up this jug of Carlo Rossi Sangria from a local liquor and wine store. The Sangria is not as sweet as I would have liked, but for those looking for a cheap and somewhat easy to locate 'jug' of wine...this may be one of the best options out there.
That is extraordinarily presumptuous, considering this is the first cheap bottle of any wine in my quest for the best of the cheap and overlooked. Nonetheless, for the price of $6.50 (I got it on sale for $5.50) it was surprisingly tolerable, in fact, it was okay. Not good. But, for $5.50 okay is fantastic.
The taste, while not sweet, does have the somewhat fruity aroma and flavors on the tongue one might expect...though somewhat weak. The aftertaste is very weak. However, it does go down fairly smoothly--and it avoids sourness surprisingly well for something so cheap.
Carlo Rossi has a small lineup of other wine varieties. Look for some more jugs in the future.
