My spring break is being spent in lovely Colorado with my dear fiance. I spent today cleaning and cleaning out his closet. Two garbage bags full of clothes for Goodwill= an organized closet that will last about 12 hours.

Code Crazy
Most of my students are young people who are able to carry on normal conversations with people. For some reason, whether spring break is in a week and a half, or the weather is turning, they've all gone crazy!
During my third hour Therapeutic Day English class, there was a Code Red. This means a student is doing bodily harm to him/herself or another person. We were to keep everyone in the room and let no one in until the code was cleared. My para was out of the room to help with the crisis. So I had my four students in the room with me: one who has such high anxiety that this was her second time actually in the classroom with me, two boys who kept nitpicking at each other, and another who kept talking, no matter who was/wasn't listening. We made it through the hour. Phew.

One of my case load kids, also in my fourth hour class, hasn't been to school in a couple of days. His parent's insurance is up so he won't have any meds for about 6 months. He is literally crazy off his meds. When he did have them, he refused to take them. Essentially, he just wants an excuse to act like the way he is. Today he came into class and was inappropriate towards others in the class so I escorted him to the social worker, all the while trying to get me to place a bet with him that he was going to be a failure in life. He came back in the classroom with ten minutes left and announced to the class that he had a bomb strapped to his chest. So we walked down to the office to get administration involved. The whole way down there, he kept saying how he thought it would actually be hilarious if he did have bombs on him and how awesome it would be.

My seventh and eighth hour classes were off their rockers as well. My Serbian student kept farting all 7th hour. The room reeked by 8th hour. One a lighter side, during my second hour class, we reviewed where Odysseus traveled to on his way home from fighting the Trojan War. No one was answering questions and everyone had glazed eyes. I was asking them who was on the island where he stayed for seven years (the goddess Calypso). So I made the Ferris Beuhler reference "Beuhler. Beuhler. Beuhler." A hand went up in the air and I was excited that someone knew the answer! J.P. gave me the answer "Beuhler was on the island with Odysseus!"
I truly love my job. Days like today make me wish I had my own social worker....
